Safeguard Your Borzoi Now!
- Store a large, current picture and write a description detailing the special characteristics of each Borzoi you own. Keep it on your computer or file it with your Borzoi’s records. This can save you a lot of time, especially when you are upset about a missing dog.
- Microchip or tattoo your Borzoi and register the number with a national database.
- Be sure your Borzoi is wearing a license and identification tag. These ID's are you pet's "ticket home." Include your home and, if possible, work phone number.
- If you are traveling with or boarding your Borzoi, add a tag with your temporary address and destination.
- Dogs with identification are kept longer at shelters, are more likely to be treated by a veterinarian, and may be helped by individuals who wouldn't otherwise assume that the dog is lost and might be reluctant to take on the responsibility and expense of trying to locate the owner.
- Keep your Borzoi confined in a secure fenced yard or enclosed kennel.
- Don't leave your Borzoi in cars where they can escape or become overheated.
- Take your Borzoi to Obedience Classes. Obedience classes can help you have a well-mannered dog that comes when called and is fun to walk on a leash.
- Spay or neuter your companion Borzoi. A spayed or neutered dog is less likely to wander. Veterinarians have found that neutered dogs live longer, healthier lives. They are better companions and can't contribute to the birth of homeless, unwanted puppies.
