We are once again looking for very special homes for two Borzoi girls. It is possible the dogs can be adopted together, but at this point we feel they may do the best if separated. Velvet and Venus are littermates who were bred by a disreputable Oregon breeder who has since had all her dogs (and many other animals) confiscated due to severe neglect and abuse. Both dogs were starved during gestation and puppyhood, had no puppy socialization, no veterinary care, and little human contact.

A groomer with sighthound experience first saved Velvet and Venus from their breeder. Then, about 1.5 years ago, a generous couple with no Borzoi experience but big hearts and a large, safe yard gave these two girls a home. Both dogs have both made much progress since being in their care. Recently, however, the couple has realized that Venus and Velvet need owners with Borzoi experience to do truly well.

Velvet and Venus are our 7th and 8th rescues from this deplorable breeder. Thankfully, each of the dogs we have placed has had a fundamentally sound temperament and been quite sweet. With patience, training, and stability, each of these dogs has bonded with its new owners and done well in its forever home. With time and patient work, we expect the same will be true for Velvet and Venus.

These girls have no experience with cats, children, or small dogs. They may never be comfortable away from their homes and owners or with strangers. They have never been indoors dogs and are not house trained. They have limited experienced travelling in cars, but behaved well.

Velvet and Venus have endured more hardship as puppies than any dog should ever experience. They need that special someone who will love them unconditionally and gently show them how to have a life worth living.

Velvet

Velvet wants love and attention and will seek it out. She is fairly comfortable with women, has bonded with her female owner and will approach her male owner and even walk with him. She is well behaved on walks outside her property, but once home it takes some time before Velvet feels confident again.

Venus

The shyer of the two girls, Venus is more comfortable with women and likely needs a single woman owner or a home where her caregiver will be a woman. She seems to want attention but must overcome her fear and shyness in order to accept it.
